Hi! I have made at least 40 bags since I started with my first PopSewing kit, and I have just started making some designs on my own, based on what I learned... (sorry PS, but some of those kits I did were cheap pleather competitors, just to learn some stuff I wanted to learn on ugly bags that I would never use)...but 10 of the kits were PopSewing's gorgeous leather kits that I use all the time, and my mom has borrowed from time to time, as well.
All of the previous kits I've built with PS were relatively simple to follow the instructions, with the supporting PDF as well as the video...but this one, the "learn how to do more than just sew some pre-finished pieces together" kit, this one was was the first one really needed me to concentrate, re-watch the video, fit and re-fit the pieces to make sure everything was *just* right before I taped and glued and sewed, from the zipper and it's gorgeous leather contour accent piece to the REALLY complicated, thick and, ultimately, "worth it" bag lining, to the overly complicated taping, sewing, then gluing, re-punching holes, then sewing and re-punching holes for up to five layers of leather to make and attach the bottom....
I am just one layer of leather away from being done with the sewing before I attach the hardware (and I am worried about that, as I am TERRIBLE at rivets and snaps, but hey, maybe their instructions will be the key to learning now to do them correctly!) and I have to say, despite all the complaining I am doing here, I actually am really happy I bought this bag kit.
I learned a lot through the whole process (even when it was "don't bother using the double sided tape, just baste the pieces together in a few spots before starting to sew) and I can see that it will be a gorgeous finished product, when I am done - and I can apply all the learnings to my future leatherwork, as well as have this Garden Party Handbag to show for my hard work!
If you are at the point where simple kits just aren't challenging you anymore, I highly recommend you try one of these advanced kits from PopSewing - you will absolutely learn a lot, have a fun bag when you're done, and also have some new tools and skills to boot!
